Markets carry risk

Trading and investing in securities involves the risk of loss, including the loss of the entire amount invested. Prices move for reasons that are not always knowable in advance. No method, course or piece of software removes this risk.

Simulated data is not the market

Charts on this site are generated by our own simulation. They are not real market prices, not a record of any market, and not an illustration of any result anyone obtained.

A simulation is built to illustrate a concept - such as how volatility clusters, or why a strategy's short record can be misleading - and its numbers are generated by our own code, not observed anywhere. A pattern that appears in a simulation is not a prediction, and does not establish that the same pattern will appear in a real market.

Past results, simulated or real, do not predict future ones

If this site or EdgeTest ever shows a backtested or historical result, that result describes what already happened under the conditions tested. It is not a promise or a likely guide to what will happen next. Markets change, and a rule that worked over one period can fail over another.

Education is not a substitute for advice

If you want advice tailored to your own circumstances, it should come from an adviser registered with SEBI for that purpose. Learning how markets work, from this site or elsewhere, is not a substitute for that.

Software is not advice

EdgeTest is a tool: you describe a strategy and it reports how that strategy would have performed against historical data. It does not tell you what strategy to use, and running a backtest is not the same as receiving advice about it.
